Edit: Blending and Type Effects

I was really excited to learn the blending technique. You take two pictures and in Photoshop, you use the blending modes to blend the two images together. For this picture I used the Linear Light blending mode. After I added the effect, I went into the image of the fire hydrant and added a mask layer. I then removed part of the snow image from on top of the fire hydrant so the fire hydrant would still stand out. I did add some brightness to my fire hydrant image as well because the light wasn't very good when I took it. (Blending Tips: #27)
Here are the original images:

Snow: 1/12/2011—2:11 PM; Rexburg, ID; f/8; 1/320 sec; Canon PowerShot A1100 IS

For the type effect on this photo I used a title overlay (#16). I increased the contrast slightly in the image and then added the text. After I added the text I used the blending mode: overlay to blend the text in with the image. It was fun to play around with the different blending techniques to see what a difference it made to the look, but overlay ended up being my favorite.

I really like your type overlay picture. It looks almost as if the Eagle is carrying the flag. it might have been neat to see a little more of the flag on this one however.
