Edit: Cutouts

Full Cutout

 Original
Dadio: 4/24/2010 – 6:32 PM; Blackfoot, Idaho; f/3.5; 1/100 sec – Canon PowerShot A 1100 IS

 Partial Cutout
Original
Casted : 3/21/2010 – 6:39 PM; Blackfoot, Idaho; f/3.5; 1/40 sec – Canon PowerShot A 1100 IS; macro mode

I took both of these shots last year and decided that they would be fun to cutout. I have done cutouts before, but I didn't know about the refine edge tool. It definitely makes a big difference to the way the image looks. Neither one of these pictures were edited beforehand. (If you are wondering, the second picture is a Jerusalem Cricket my dad casted in high school.)

Great work Carlie! The full cutout around your father obviously took a decent amount of effort getting into some of those nooks ‘n’ crannies! And the Mormon Cricket cast—a great photo to begin with—is even more fun to look at with the partial cutout. There are some parts of the cutouts that feel just a little too angular (the back edge of your dad’s coat and the far right leg of the Mormon Cricket). But other than that, they are definitely great choices and great editing! Keep it up Carlie! — Herbert

Carlie, I think you did a great job with your full cut out of your Dadio was very well done! I can only imagine how hard it was to get such a clean cutout of the spikes on his hair in the front. I had the hardest time with the hair that I was trying to cut out. Good job!!!

Whoops! Sent before I finished commenting! I loved the Mormon Cricket. That was a very good choice for a photo to edit. I was interested in reading your description so I could find out what it was. Good job!!!
